Sustainable Practices

We care about our environmental impact.

In an industry shrouded in excess waste, carbon emissions, chemical exposure, here’s where we make a difference:

We source our flowers and foliage from local growers (in the state of California) whenever possible. Buying local supports our local economy, farmers, and decreases carbon emissions from transportation. Locally grown flowers are treated with fewer chemicals and pesticides than those flown in from countries without grower regulations. We believe strongly in supporting these sustainable initiatives and the long-term benefits they provide for our clients and the future of their families.

We are an 100% floral foam free business since inception. Floral foam is chalked full of chemicals and plastics found toxic to our bodies, wildlife, and in particular our waterways. We have never, and will never use floral foam in our designs. We work with our clients to provide education on the harmful impacts of floral foam and necessity for certain structures. We suggest alternatives to designs that would otherwise require the use of floral foam. We believe change in an industry starts from the bottom up.

We abstain from the use of harmful Invasive Plants which spread with ease. Highly invasive plants can be harmful to native flora and fauna. For example, a single stem of pampas grass can house thousands of seeds which when airborne can travel miles from location and germinate expeditiously. The use of these grasses in home decor and floral design have contributed to the spread of this invasive species so severely that some countries have laws against their usage. As well, pampas grass is highly flammable, a concerning variable with our wild fire experiences in Northern California over the recent years. Pampas stems are extremely sharp which is a detriment to local birds and small mammals building nest and housing for their young. Invasive plants compete for natural resources available to local plants and wildlife. We recommend local native products for our clients. A single event is not worth long-term impacts to our beautiful coastal California.

We refrain from the use of harmful chemicals on our homegrown flowers, floral designs, and cleaning solutions. We believe the best and most fresh flowers benefit from simply… clean water. Our homegrown blooms are tended with organic and sustainable garden practices surrounded by the bees, butterflies, birds, in our certified Pollinator Sanctuary. We even have a family of owls and opossums! We treat our plants with organic compost tea, worm castings, and fresh water. For cleaning our buckets, snips, and designing materials we use diluted melaleuca oil, a natural and biodegradable antibacterial essential oil.

Following events green materials are composted back into nutrient-rich soil. We encourage clients to purchase vases so designs can be enjoyed by guests in their own home. Everyone loves receiving flowers! We aim to give our flowers the longest love possible. Installation materials and flowers passed their prime are composted and returned to nutrient rich soil. Since we do not use floral foam, styrofoam, or single-use plastic containers, we have very little landfill waste at the end of each event.

All of our delivery and marketing materials are reusable, recyclable, and biodegradable. Our bouquets are delivered in recyclable glass vases. When necessary, cardboard boxes are provided and collected for reuse and ease of recycling. We avoid any single use plastic items with our designing and delivery. Paper goods are reused as often as possible and when repurchased, recycled materials are always our first selection.
