A little about what's happening in our big flower world...

A Little Pop-Up Wedding | San Francisco, CA

Last weekend we were very fortunate to team up with Bouchon Bistro & Thomas Keller Restaurant Group for a very special event in San Francisco! The event was staged as a small dinner party, but after guests arrived, enjoyed happy hour and hors d'oeuvres, they were surprised with a little bit more than your average dinner celebration.

The trickster gentleman who planned the dinner event was going to propose to his lady friend that very evening. Even more exciting, the engagement came with one stipulation, a Pop-Up Wedding, right then and there in this awesomely modern warehouse studio in front of only their closest loved ones! He even had a dress on stand-by ready for the impromptu ceremony. True romance at its finest!

The venue was located in the heart of the Mission District at Blackwell Files ~ Studios. The planning and execution was coordinated through Thomas Keller Restaurant Group's event planner, Austin, who was nothing less than a dream to work with!

So, what was requested of us? Moderate designs with interesting elements and little pops of color. An earthy feel with a modern edge, simple but just bold enough to grab the attention of the guests and compliment those bright orange chairs! We needed to keep the arrangements very tight as the food was the real star and served family style at the gorgeous modernized version of a farm table. In addition, the bride's bouquet needed to double as a centerpiece as the groom wanted to make certain not a soul knew about his "little" surprise.

We loved the feel of this space, the simplicity but bold impact of the floral designs, working with the Amazing Austin, and the delicious aroma of Bouchon treats coming from the "garage kitchen" where Chef cooked away to Lil' Wayne verses on repeat. Pretty much a dreamland. We cannot wait until our next event! Thank you Austin and TKRG for making our first Pop-Up Wedding a huge success!

Our arrangements included these floral beauties: David Austin "Patience" buttermilk roses, orange pin-cushion protea, orange ranunculus, white football mums, blue thistle, seeded eucalyptus, silver dollar eucalyptus, Queen Anne's Lace, green hypericum berries, rosemary, and bupleurum.

Pairing Up

We are so excited to be pairing up with Crystal Lynn Photography! Crystal is a local photographer with a true eye for beauty. Her pictures capture a feeling that's so soft and comforting, it's like wrapping up in a cable-knit blanket by a warm fire. I cannot wait to see her shots of our floral designs! Thank you Crystal.

In Full Bloom

There's nothing like the beauty of flowers in full bloom! Here are 5 steps to keep your flowers happy and healthy. Flowers and plants need water and glucose to stay alive! 1) Every 2-3 days, dump out all the water in your vessel...Simply hold the flowers to the side and pour out the old water. 2) Run fresh, cold, tap water into your vessel until about half way. 3) Fill a pitcher or glass with more fresh water add a small amount of sugar (about 1tsp for a pint of water) and a squeeze of citrus (fresh lemon or lime juice). Stir until sugar and lemon juice are dissolved and add the mixture to fill the second half of your vessel. 4) Fill vessel only to the bottom of where the leaves of your flowers start, you don't want the petals or leaves under water as they will grow bacteria. 5) When petals touch each other they will start to bruise. When you notice bruised (brown) petals, hold the stem of the flower and pinch off the bruised petal. This will keep your flowers looking fresh and lively! Your sweet flowers will love you for days to come! XO- The Pollen Mill
